Day 1 - - Anchorage & Eklutna Historical Park & Lake: (Meals Provided: Dinner)
Your first day begins strong with a stop at Anchorage’s Native Heritage Center. The center promotes native culture and traditions with educational programs and a variety of exhibits. From traditional Longhouses to handiwork and performance arts, the center recognizes traditional native art forms, many of which are in danger of being lost.
Many types of native handicraft are on display, including bark baskets, moose hide boots and seal hide tunics. The Native Heritage Center doesn’t just provide walk-by viewing opportunities but seeks to immerse its visitors in a dynamic, evolving culture.
Traveling onwards, the village of Eklutna provides visitors with a cultural opportunity to learn about the Russian Orthodox Church and its influence on native Alaskan culture. From the onion-shaped domes of New Saint Nicholas Church to the vibrant swaths of color speckled across the Athabaskan spirit houses, nowhere else does secular religion blend with native tradition in this way.
Towards the evening, rejuvenate at Lake Lucille B & B, where you can enjoy a lakeside dinner as dusk descends.
Day 2 - - Hatcher Pass & Knik Glacier: (Meals Provided: Breakfast)
Travel to Hatcher Pass, a high mountain pass with peaks enshrouded in emerald alpine and crystalline glacial waters; a day here is a day of exceptional beauty. Try your luck at panhandling and see what riches the river provides.
After lunch, we’ll take an airboat shuttle to Knik Glacier, allowing you to see crystal blue icebergs floating quietly in serene Lake George. Previously covering the entirety of the Anchorage Bowl and Cook Inlet, Knik Glacier is famous for its historically cataclysmic floods. Enjoy a walk along the terminal moraine or a hike along the crystalline glacial face.
Day 3 - - Talkeetna & Iditarod Race Headquarters: (Meals Provided: Breakfast)
The day begins at Iditarod Race Headquarters, an Alaskan heritage and cultural sight where you’ll experience a real dog-led ride. Historically renowned for its role as a trade and delivery route, this was once Alaska’s lifeline to medication, supply and post from the mainland. Today, Iditarod Race Headquarters maintains the tradition of mushing with the annual Iditarod Sled Dog Race.
Afterwards, a private flight from Talkeetna offers rare, aerial views of Alaska’s lush valleys and snow-domed mountains. Weather permitting, your pilot will land on a nearby glacier, providing private opportunities to explore.
For those who prefer to stay grounded, a riverboat safari provides an intimate opportunity to get immersed in the rugged environment with views of beaver activity, nesting bald eagles and a first-hand look at a real trapper’s cabin.
In the evening, enjoy your lakeside accommodation in world-renowned Denali National Park.
Day 4 - - Denali National Park & Anchorage: (Meals Provided: Breakfast & Light Snack)
With over 365 acres of wild frontier, Denali’s Tundra Wilderness Tour provides you with an excellent opportunity to see some of Alaska’s native species.
